Pet scratching excessively and biting at the base of the tail
Flea allergy dermatitis is the most common sign in dogs. A single flea bite on an allergic animal causes intense itching.

Year-round; peak activity May through October
Fleas are a year-round problem in Mount Pleasant and throughout coastal South Carolina. The Lowcountry does not get a killing freeze that eliminates outdoor flea populations. A complete flea treatment requires addressing the pet, the interior of the home, and the outdoor areas where the pet spends time — missing any one of the three allows the cycle to continue.
The usual reasons somebody calls about this.
Flea allergy dermatitis is the most common sign in dogs. A single flea bite on an allergic animal causes intense itching.
Flea droppings, which are digested blood. A damp white cloth rubbed over the specks will turn red if it is flea dirt.
Unfed adult fleas jumping at body heat. A significant flea population in the carpet will bite people at ankle height.
The Lowcountry climate sustains outdoor flea populations through the winter. Pets going outdoors pick up fleas from the yard, and those fleas reproduce indoors.
Wildlife passing through the yard — raccoons, opossums, and deer — deposit flea eggs in the soil that hatch and develop in the yard.
Snee Farm, Old Village and I'On all see this, and so does the rest of the service area.
Lone star tick larvae (seed ticks). Seed ticks are extremely small (barely visible) and crawl, while fleas hop. Seed ticks are found in clusters outdoors; fleas are found on pets and in soft indoor furnishings.
Oral or topical flea prevention on all pets in the household (required — no interior treatment works without this)
Interior treatment: IGR (insect growth regulator) and adulticide applied to all carpeted areas and pet resting spots
Yard treatment: residual application to shaded areas and pet travel paths
Repeat interior treatment in 2-3 weeks to catch emerging pupae
Some fleas problems are genuinely finished after one visit. Others return every year whatever you do, and those are what a plan is for.
| Your situation | What normally fits |
|---|---|
| Something contained and recent | One-time treatment |
| Outside pressure that comes back each year | Scheduled cover |
| Anything nesting inside the structure itself | Treatment and exclusion |
Consumer flea sprays and foggers miss pupae, which are protected inside their cocoons from most products. Treating the pet and treating the yard are the two steps most often skipped in DIY attempts.
Fleas can transmit murine typhus and flea-borne spotted fever. Cat scratch disease is transmitted through flea dirt contaminating cat scratches. Flea tapeworm can infect pets and occasionally children.
Most fleas jobs around Mount Pleasant land between an estimated $79 and $169, and the property decides where inside that. The inspection costs nothing and the real number goes in writing before anyone starts. Estimated bands, and what pushes a job up or down them, are set out on the pricing guide, and the service that handles this is Yard and Lawn Pest Control.
Large Black Ants That Nest in Moist or Damaged Wood. Carpenter ants are the largest ant species found in South Carolina homes.
Most Widespread Termite in South Carolina. Eastern subterranean termites are the most widespread termite species in South Carolina and are present throughout Charleston County.
The Lowcountry Yard Pest That Stings Repeatedly. Red imported fire ants are present in virtually every yard in Mount Pleasant and throughout Charleston County.
Topical flea preventions require fleas to bite and absorb the product before they die. A heavily infested environment can re-infest a treated pet faster than the prevention kills them. Interior and yard treatment is needed alongside the pet treatment.
Fleas can be introduced by visiting animals, on clothing from an infested environment, or from a prior resident if you recently moved in. Indoor cats can still develop flea infestations.
Adult fleas die quickly after treatment. Eggs and pupae are protected and unaffected. The cycle completes over 2-4 weeks as pupae emerge and encounter the residual treatment. Most people see continued flea activity for 2-3 weeks post-treatment — this is normal and does not mean the treatment failed.
The inspection is free and you get a straight recommendation rather than a pitch. Same-day service where there is capacity for anything active.
